Greetings Disciples.

The idea was brought up both ICly and OOCly last night about creating a number of prayers we can chant together in battle. This is a marvellous suggestion and will be something to not only set us apart from other guilds but it will also emphasis the sense of unity in our order!

As an example (but by no means final I was trying to think this up on the spot)

Officer/Leader - When the enemies of the light come forth...
Reply for the Disciples - We stand as one, a bulwark of light!

More a marching song maybe but this seems apt. (Its the chorus to an old school song)

Stout hearts endeavouring
The combat of life to face
Comrades to the battlefield
Eager to take our place.

There are several verses that could be edited to mean something to the disciples. but will not bore you with them for now

ok, I admit I can not resist with playing with this. Ideas only. verses to above chorus modified to disciples.

Model our lives on thee, oh virtues dear,
Honour and purity will conquer fear,
Honour unstained and bright, guarded by the light,
Until their dawns at last eternity.

Honour and purity will guard our way,
Shining mid shades of night until dawn of day
Thro' childhood's happy hours thro' life ling years
Disciples of light will know no fears.

Engraved on every heart tou shall remain,
Urging others the light to gain
Higher and higher our stops will climb
Until light's glory girds the hills of time.

Suggestion is that an officer calls for a round of prayer. Lower ranks give a response depending on their rank.

Anyone can call for the round of prayer not just officers.

Suggested round:

Officer or senior present: starts the call to prayer with something specific to the situation.

Squire/Scribe/Ranger: light grant us <appropriate virtue> to aid in this task.

Initiates: light grant us <appropriate virtue>

Neophytes: light hear our prayers.

Lower ranks should be encouraged to call out to the light. The responses of others could fit in this format.

PS: It could cause more RP post event with questions about why a virtue was chosen.

May the Light answer you when you are in distress; may the name of the Light protect you.
May it send you help from the sanctuary and grant you support.
May it remember all your sacrifices and accept your burnt offerings.
May it give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed.
May we shout for joy over your victory and lift up our banners in the name of the Light. May the Light grant all your requests.
Now this I know: The Light gives victory to its anointed. It answers him from its heavenly sanctuary with the victorious power of his right hand.
Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Light.
They are brought to their knees and fall, but we rise up and stand firm.
Light, give us victory! Answer us when we call!

Actually, that's just Psalm 20 from the Bible, with reference to the Lord changed to refer to the Light.

Ok, for those with sense, smile or frown, shake your head and move on. This is a much more long term view and hopefully people will provide ideas even if unsure of its practicalities.

In the long term I would like to see this idea expanded into:

Battle prayers that are short and punchy
Ceremonial prayers for promotions or pilgrimages
Training ballads for new recruits.

As such I am neither a poet or a great lore nerd (expert if nerd offends you) but would present a historical Ballard attempt as an example. I would love to see someone help with this and also Ballards for each of the virtues.

Uther was a priest at first,
he loved the holy light.
When trouble cam he took up arms.
and charged into the fight.

A paladin he then was called,
Alonsus Faol his friend.
They formed the silver hand that day,
Decrees were writ' to send.

Brother Neals in abbey waits,
He seeks the pure of heart.
Diciples come to follow light,
Uther's example was our start.

Virtues are our way of life,
Respect we learn at first.
Tenacity, compassion too,

As I say i am sketchy on lore and no poet.

I would love to see something like this for different occasions. I appreciate that it would be allot of work, but I also think it could prove a useful off-line way of encouraging all to contribute to the forming of our guild lore.

Even if this guild on classic does not use the ideas, I as Yriah et al would use them as teaching ballards on defias retail. ( for the orphans and young people I rp there). I would be grateful if others could contribute to this.
